Celebrating the Global Youth Service Day

April 10-13, Isidora Stefanoska '22 with assistance of a volunteer organized an educational four-day workshop "Plant a Young Seed" at the elementary school ''Yahya Kemal'' in Skopje. The project involved educating 100 kids aged 5-12, on environmental issues and teaching them the right habits to protect our environment. The children participated in an interactive presentation on environmental awareness, pollution, and recycling, followed by planting flowers in their school's yard to encourage proactive involvement in the environment. The goal of this project was to raise awareness about environmental protection, specifically focusing on cultivating the right habits in young minds. By focusing on the younger generation, Isidora hoped to instill a sense of responsibility and stewardship for the environment in future generations. By giving children a tangible way to contribute to the project, they were able to learn about the power of collective action and their ability to make a difference. The impact of the project went beyond just educating the children who participated.

For GYSD, YES Abroad student, Isabella Lastomirsky, organized an event for students at NGO Dneven Centar Doza Srekja, an Association for rehabilitation and inclusion of people with Down Syndrome. Using modeling clay, everyone created a sun inspired by the Talavera, a traditional Mexican pottery style.

Additionally, everyone created something   that reminded them of nature.
